I AIM TO MAKE MUSIC THAT SPEAKS TO PEOPLE - LUNA.

The month of March is a very significant one for women all around the world and we at Colossus Media have decided to celebrate young females to encourage and support their brands and businesses.
The time is now! Young women from all races and walk of life are taking the reins of leadership all around the world. It's a woman's world now and Luna's soulful vocals and lyrical prowess reiterate her readiness to take on the music industry.

Colossus Media: Tell us a little bit about Luna?

Luna: Well Luna is my stage name and I picked the name because I’m interested in astrology and my spirit girl is literally Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. I’m a Gemini and aside from singing I’m also an artist. So when it comes to cover art I do that myself. I also play the piano and love anime. However, I sleep a lot because of all the work I do.

When did you start making music professionally?

I professionally started making music in 2016. That’s when I started writing my songs for the purpose of releasing them to the public. However I didn’t drop anything until January 18th this year, which is Glitters, my first song on SoundCloud.

You’re yet to release a body of work, can we expect one soon?

I’m currently working on a summer EP called Magenta, but you’d expect some singles and collaborations before then.

Who influenced what you listened to growing up as a kid?

Growing up, I was exposed to so many different types of music, and I’d have to say that my Dad was the musically inclined one at home. I listened to a lot of classical music when I was little because when I started learning how to play the piano (at the age of 3) I learned with a classical background. I also listened to some Jazz, RnB and Soul music artists like James Brown, Frank Sinatra And honestly so many others. I liked the way the music made me feel, even though at the time I didn’t really get the lyrics. But RnB And Soul have influenced my current sound.

As a female, what role do you think you playing in the Nigerian Music Industry?

In the Nigerian music industry I aim to create music that speaks to people. Music they can relate to and actually feel within themselves. Not only for the girls but for the boys as well. All my songs are based on experiences I’ve had. I just want people to have something they can hold on to, to remind them that they’re not alone. You know?

How's has the industry treated you as a female artiste?

I wouldn’t necessarily say I’ve been fully immersed in the Nigerian music industry, because I’m just starting out. Getting the word about your music around isn’t as easy as I’d thought. However, I think the way I have been treated in the industry is quite good so far. People are supportive and some give constructive criticism on what I need to work on and stuff.

So there was a fan on Twitter who asked you to quit making music, how do handle the criticism on the media?

I’m a very thick skinned person and I know my worth. I don’t think there’s anything that anybody can tell me, that could possibly make me... sad. Nobody can tell me to quit something except me. So I don’t think I’d be “quitting” music anytime soon.

The year just started and you just dropped “glitters” and it's doing numbers on the chart ,who are you tipping for in 2019?

Yeah Glitters is currently on 2k+ plays after just two months and I’m super happy about that. Definitely Na-Ku. Most of the other young artistes debuted last year and they’re doing really good so I hope things work out for them in the long run, but Na-Ku is someone I see going very far because he’s super talented and I love his work ethic.

2k+ plays!! That's crazy for a debut song in less than 2 months, congrats on that. What is your one true desire?

Thanks. My one true desire is to live in true happiness honestly because I think your happiness matters more than anything else.

Nicely said, you got last words for every female artiste out there and how can our readers connect with you on your socials?

I just want to say that to all the young female artistes. Be yourself. Do what feels like you, or you’d hate it and get tired. My twitter is @lunaalovesyou and my Instagram is @lunaa.loves. I’m available for bookings so for business related stuff, hit me: alina.abdullahi@gmail.com

ÍRÈ

Tmol '18.

Good evening readers and a Happy Poetry day.  “ÍRÉ” a poem written by Daniel Nnaemeka.

ÍRÉ....

Do not curse these scars,
he might have held the knife,
but it was you who showed him where to cut
thinking that to love was to lose yourself to his fire.

Don't judge the game,
when you haven't held a console,
nothing lasts forever,
same as the word “forever”
illusions take the better part of dreams,
obsession takes depression to the aisle.

Everyone dies in their nightmares,
don't be scared of rejection,
it's a numb action which requires tears,
sadness and sorrow which makes nothing,
happiness is free but not promised.

The soul attracts that which it secretly habours,
that which is love, attention,
and also that which it fears,
it reaches the height of its cherished aspirations.

Be positive and enjoy your growth,
the road might be rocky, but the end like honey,
the sweetness of yaweh's grace,
is forever sufficient in my soul.

HOW MY CAMERA CHANGED MY LIFE - MASK THA DIRECTOR.

Good morning Readers, it's another  Sunday and we had a sit-down with a young talent who turned his hobby for taking pictures and making short videos into being his profession.
Boluwatife Jayeoba is our guest for today, popularly known as “Mask Tha Director” has turned his love for lights and images into creating a niché for his career. His Company has worked with Afrima awards, Mainland Block Party etc.We met at a function and had a little conversation about his career and business.

1)Tell us who Boluwatife Jayeoba is?

Boluwatife Jayeoba  is a Cinematographer/Entrepreneur he owns his own media company “Mask Media”.

2)when did you start photography /videography professionally?

I started photography professionally in 2016, a year after I left secondary school, after running my media company for 3 months I discovered that there were a lot of media companies coming up and with the same basic content (photography),so I decided to infuse videography into mine so as to stand out,I started videography and I didn’t take it serious but I noticed I started finding it more comfortable documenting and shooting videos that’s was how the whole maskthadirector thing came up.

3)how do you blend school work with business?

I try my best to serve both masters which isn’t easy but we try.

4)how did the name “MASK MEDIA” come about?

The name “Mask Media” came from my nickname Mask, while growing up I was a shy boy and I didn’t always want people to see my face,so I was with some of my guys one time and they address the matter about me being shy and they were like “oboy last last you go dey wear mask”and we all laughed when I got home that night i was trying to come up with a name for my company and myself so I tried Mask and with time it synced and people accepted  the name, so as for maskthadirector when I started directing I just added thadirector to Mask that’s how we have Maskthadirector .

5)Ever had a bad shoot or an Unforgettable memory?

Yeah, there’s one I can’t forget I had a video to shoot one time and we had to use a ghetto location, when we got there things were cool until when we started the shoot some boys just tripped out from nowhere and they where like ‘una no go shoot anything here where the director”,that moment was scary but we settled everything and moved on but those guys are family now.

6)The industry has alot to offer, some people have competitions, who is yours?

Competitions isn't my thing, drive on your lane, there's space for everyone to fly and spread your wings. My biggest competition is the man I see in the mirror everyday and that's myself.

7)what is your biggest motivation?

My biggest motivation is my mom,I do everything for her.
8)Will you say photography is more of abusiness or a hobby for you?

Cinematography is a hobby which I expect to make profit from, basically I don't have to stress, I find fun doing what I love and that's the goal.

9)Advice to Upcoming Photographers

You must believe in yourself and make sure you keep learning because when you stop learning you stop living.

10)how can our readers connect with you on your socials?

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION.

After the Socialist Party Of America organized a Women's Day on February 28, 1909, in New York, the 1910 International Socialist Woman's Conference suggested a Women's Day be held annually. After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.
Today, International Women's Day is a public holiday in some countries and largely ignored elsewhere. In some places, it is a day of protest; in others, it is a day that celebrates womanhood. It Signifies Civil awareness day,Women and girls day, Anti-sexism day and Anti-Discrimination day for Women all over the World.

BURNA BOY DANGOTE LYRICS VIDEO.

African's Giant Damini “Burna Boy” Ogulu just released his new single “Dangote” after dropping his smash hit “Killin Dem” featuring Zlatan ibile. This new single has left many asking his reasons for naming his single after African's Richest Man Aliko Dangote.

“Dangote still dey find money” is a catchy line in the song. I think this is related with the previous achievement of Aliko Dangote who made $5bn in 24 hours which is mind bursting.

Watch the lyrics video for Dangote. Enjoy

DAMNATION

A poem composed and written by a patriotic Nigerian Lydia George titled “DAMNATION”. This shows her concern over the Previous Elections held in Nigeria on the 23rd February 2019. The chaos, blood sheds and many unforseen experiences that occurred during the cause of the Presidential elections.

Once again,
The dark clouds hover upon my nation,
It weeps for our damnation
Washing away blood spilled by our brother and sisters,
To make sure there is a win for a certain mister.

I see no hope today,
Today I see no wins,
As a nation, we have lost,
We sold our wins to our damnation.
And tomorrow once again we shall pray.

God save us all,
Those are the lyrics to new song,
The drums will be the gun shots,
And the piano will be the wails,
We shall sing the songs of sorrow once again.

On a day of new beginnings,
We have served ourselves with hot bowls of curses and shame,
Served with a glass of blood,
Later we shall wash our hands in pain,
And by the time dinner is over , we shall suffer in our own
DAMNATION.

                           Lydia George.

REVIEW ON KAYLU'S DOUBLE HOMICIDE COVER.

A look into kaylu's double homicide cover, sometime this year Mavin Records rapper Ladi Poe started a challenge for other rappers to drop covers of his track titled Double Homicide from his 2018 album which he featured Ghost of SDC on. Notable rappers released video covers of the song till the challenge ended. Well that was what we thought up until the fast rising rapper Kaylu came out of the blues and surprised us with his own cover he dropped as an audio on SoundCloud. Kaylu’s cover is one of the most notable because of his witty wordplays, impeccable flow and undiluted delivery. He also calls out all rappers in the cover, making it known to all that he is a force to be reckoned with in the hip hop game and isn’t coming to play this year. The cover is rumored to be a diss track to rappers and a few influential personalities.
Kaylu has proven times without number that he is one of the top young acts to watch in the game. We do hope to see more from the young talented rapper.
We love good music at Colossus Media and we would keep supporting the young acts in the industry, remember We rise by lifting Others.

Ratings:8/10

REVIEW OF ABSTRAKTT'S “ALLOW ME TO RAP”.

“Allow me to rap about things that bothering me without any apologies to anyone who listens and won’t be pleased”

Abstract has just released new song and the timing couldn’t be better, right on the morning of the Nigerian Presidential election. The Artiste bares his mind in this new track leaving no area of the country uncritiqued. He calls out the Police for the Corruption and their brutality, the Politicians for the fake promises and corruption. He speaks about election violence and the Chibok Girls who have not still been rescued from the clutches of the nation’s biggest terrorists and how the soldiers are being provided with old guns. Abstract also goes ahead to speak about the two /more time unprofessionalism displayed in the house of assembly by our lawmakers. The artiste doesn’t just stop at the head of the country, he calls out us, yes us, the listeners for focusing on what is not important, He says “We are more concerned of Simi and Adekunle gold and whether falz has the chemistry for her as the story is told” obviously, this is just a headline for the many unimportant topics we the youths have decided to focus on, he goes forward to speak about the lackadaisical behavior many have shown to the election and the ever so popular ‘pant stealing’ which happened in the country.
In his new track “Allow Me To Rap” Abstrakt displays his realness which he has continuously shown in his music and his lifestyle and today on his latest track, Abstrakt makes it known in the tract that this is not just another song ranting about political issues he says that this track is “motivation, correction and confidence combined” and no one could have said it better. Abstraktt conveys lack of bias as he also critiques the attitude of the Youths, a category he also falls in and he is unapologetic about it. Personally, I feel this song should be taken as what it is, correction and motivation so we can be confident about the future of our country.

We at Colossus Media give this track a solid 10/10 for its realness, uniqueness, style and his amazing timing. Congratulations Abstrakt on this new one and we pray you grow continuously.

I MAKE BLIIZZY MUSIC-BLIIZZY.

Bliizzy recording in the studio.

Bliizzy has spent the last two years crossing the bounds to becoming the next rap messiah while he does bliizzy music for his fans. From shutting down gigs and festivals to going on tour with artistes and record labels. We hanged out some weeks back and we talked about his music and the role he plays in the Nigerian Music Industry.

1)What does this new year mean to you?

Blizzy:Another year to get more fans
Another to put out more amazing music
Another year to do it bigger than I did last year

Bliizzy:Okay, so my name is Adebanjo Boluwatife Daniel. You know me as BLIIZZY. Papiichocolato is my alter ego
I’m a student of civil engineer which most people find hard to believe, I’m happy and jumpy “most”of the time and I love making music

My music.. well I’d say I make BLIIZZY MUSIC cos I really don’t like being defined with one genre cos I could decide to switch up and be a badass in whatever genre I decide to take up but whatever it is I do be rest assured it’s my sound hence Bliizzy music and yeah I make songs for everybody if you don’t like one song you’ll definitely find something I’ve recorded you like I’m positive.

3)what role do you feel you play in the Nigerian Music scene?

Bliizzy:I feel I could be the bridge that makes music that the regular street boy connects to and the rich kid or “ajebutter” people relate to

So every song I’ve heard has influenced my sound.

5)what message do you want to give with your music?

CREATIVE TEARS

the mind holds great potentials,
the heart is the mother of destruction,
the mind nurtures and knows the truth,
but the heart accepts lies and deceit,
why hurt your pen with tears over what people say?

corrupt your mind with lies from your heart,
validations from mortals are gateways to failure,
but who doesn't want her squad to know about her ideas and dreams??

your creativity cries to escape judgement from the chain you put him,
it begs for mercy even when you know he's innocent,
of the crime your peers accuse him off,
Rome wasn't built in a day,
doesn't mean its foundation wasnt done in hours,
drugs for the stress
then prayers for your redemption.

never put out mediocre work for fame,
stop throwing bricks at glass houses,
since you own one too,
patience can cook a stone.

Thank you for Reading.

MUSIC 101

Good day readers and a happy new month from Colossus Media, wishing all of you a blissful month. Today we will be discussing something different and it's a smart one which will be beneficial to young and upcoming artistes who plan on going far and making a name for their brand and it's titled “MUSIC 101”
“Music 101” is a guideline&steps on how you kick start your music career and how the music business will pay you if only your cards are played correctly. We will be stating different steps below, read and pinpoint something.

-Build a good relationship with a studio producer who believes in you.
(This is very important as an individual artiste, not everyone will believe in your sound but finding that person who believes on you is everything you need. The likes of Shizzi to Davido,Samklef and Sarz to Wizkid,D Tunes to Sean Tizzie etc.

-Work on yourself if you can't get a record deal.
(Building your brand is important and remember no one will build it for you, even when you get a record label, you still have to do the work YOURSELF)

-Always remember that a fan is a King,so don't take them for granted.
(Try and build a good relationship with your fans on your social network platforms, relate with them on what they need to hear from you and their opinions on your songs)

-Covers are the best ways to start your music career.
(Number of big artistes today once in their career covered other people's songs and they got recognized by the virtue of doing that. IF YOU LIKE A SONG, COVER IT)

-Get a manger who believes your music is the best in the world.
(Asa Asika was asked in an interview and he said Davido music is the best in the world. You need to work with someone who believes your sound is the best thing on earth.you have to work with your manager effectively and believe in his words)

-If you want to run a record label, you need the following personnels on your team(A&R,Social Media Manager,Lawyers,Accountant etc)

-Covers are the best ways to start your music career and build some following because you have to break through the melee.

-Your career will rise and fall on the calibre of talents on your team
(Run away from “Yes Men”,examine the people you want to work with, most people stick to you because they know you will blow, work with people who believe in your sound and also believe you can be the next big thing tomorrow)

-Nine of ten times, family members are not always cool, they always tell you what you want to hear, run away from yes men and sycophants.

-Be wise, dont abort your career before its even birthed.
(Understand that life is not fair but you can make it fair for you,the journey is NEVER easy, dont let what you see deceive you, nobody posts their failures online, just be focus and work smart, best believe you will make it happen one day)

-Being a music artiste is not the only way to earn in the industry.
(You can be a song writer, publisher, tour manager, event manager, music plugger for tv and radio, booking agent, vocal coach and social media manager)

-Remember family is the first line of support, both financially and morally.

-In the industry, people will only support you when they see what you have created, not what you can create, you have to do the work.

-In Nigeria as a whole, its hard for someone to help you without hearing anything,so before you walk up to anybody for help,do your homework first.

-As a young artiste, its essential to save up and record your song with good technical sounds, work with good producers, so you won't be called a Wack artiste.

-When an artiste presents his song,it takes want real expert to spot the talent behind the poor quality technical sounds.

-Set 3 major things that need to be addressed
I) Access to state of the art recording and sound equipment.
II)Purpose built venue for shows and concert
III)Digital music and streaming platforms.
-Build a good relationship with PR's, A&R's,work with good PR brands when your song is out,so they can help trend it to your desired fans both inside and outside the country.

-Try at least to perform in your neighborhood shows and carnivals, give beer parlours, barbing shops, DJ's your songs to play, beg now and work with event promoters to fix your name in line ups of shows, inorder to grow your fan base.

  BUILDING A SOLID MUSIC CAREER.

1)Prepare for the industry through learning.
Learn about business and the industry, lately most people don't research about the industry before entering, understand the global market, then practice what you have learnt, mistakes are open, they are inevitable but take note and learn from them. Networking is very important, let people know what you do.

2)Tap into overlooked jobs/opportunity
there are many overlooked jobs like A&R,Managers,Label executive promoters, content creators, music pluggers.
They are opportunities for entertainment lawyers, accountants and auditors. The industry can be the biggest employers of labour if or when used properly.

3)Having a mentor
Like my mentor is Asa Asika&Smade, having a mentor is essential,it helps you make fewer mistakes. Intern with someone, or a company you see doing what you're trying to-do. The industry will grow faster if we empower the people coming after us. The true test of power is in distribution.

4)Stay grounded
Improve yourself and stay consistent. Travel, read and learn cultures, make new friends. It expands your view, take artiste development seriously and remember  you're a business,if you don't take yourself seriously,no one will.

5)Dont ignore streaming.
In the next 5 years, you won't be going through the stress of downloading songs from websites and all, artistes will get their rightful earning from each records you put out,you pick up your phone and stream any song you want. Streaming pays more than anything now and soon the world will be all about streaming.

6)You shouldn't have a plan B.
Having a plan B will distract your plan A because you keep thinking of other choices if A doesn't work. Stay focused on making A work for you,its okay to fall, always make sure you stand up.

7)Let your audience validate you.
What is important is knowing you're in the artiste life cycle. Validation is very important. The fact you get feedback from friends and family doesn't make you a “Big Star”. Validation is when someone you don't know confirms you can sing. This happens when you take time to perform at locations to develop him or her self while the label can provide funding. Thank God for the internet, artiste can put and distribute their contents online without stress in the comfort of your bedroom. If you don't get a label to take a gamble on you, take a gamble on yourself, its in your hands. A fanbase will help you make money. Build an audience and you will have audience to sell music too.

8)Never forget the power of dreams.
I'm a dreamer,so as everyone, remember that if you can dream it,you can actually achieve it. Remember prayer is the key after all your hard and smart work. Remember in this jungle, you kill or get killed, always remember God is first and family comes after.
If you read this article and apply 80% to your career, trust me you will be doing good for yourself and brand in couple years time. We will be doing more of this more often. Thanks for reading and don't forget to follow our social media platforms.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH LECTRIK.

Welcome on board readers, hope you missed me because I missed y'all but don't be sad,we have one of waviest artiste in the industry right now in the house, the name “lectrik” isn't new to us again.
Benedict Okojie popularly known as “Lectrik” is a song writer and recording artiste who is good in his craft of music making. We had in the studio and we talked at length on his career and what music has done for him and his brand. Stay tuned.

CM:Whats your full name?

Lectrik: My full name is Benedict Okojie.

CM: Do you have an alias?

Lectrik: my alias Is Lectrik.

CM:Tell us how your lifestyle as influenced your style of music?

Lectrik: i think the best way define my music is however way my listener interprets it. I wouldn't like to give a box or limit it because different people see my songs in different All I do is express myself and hope the yutes can relate.my lifestyle plays a huge role in my music it's my experiences or certain feelings that lead to the creation of my songs. i’m pretty much a night owl so you’d see that my songs have the different night scenarios; either you're partying with your friends or just chilling at home bumping your jams. i’m also someone who lives full of love & talks about love, because, if not anything, that's what makes the world go round. Sometimes it’s about my love for what I do, for my family or the most Common, for a girl.
Those are just two examples basically but I think when everyone hears my upcoming project they'll understand my lifestyle a bit more & even join in the fun.

CM:We all face challenges, what challenges have you faced since you got into music?

Lectrik: i think the biggest challenge i’ve faced since i started music is self doubt. sometimes i’m not impressed with my self and I think I could do way better cause of the effort put into creating the music & it’s not reaching where I want it to. sometimes i criticize myself way too much and end up getting moody over just going over some things but I think that’s what makes me do what’s right at times. it keeps me on my toes, I’m basically my worst critic.

like I said earlier my music is inspired by how i feel or an experience. especially in the lyrics, i just try to draw inspiration from my own personal events log. But when it comes to musical inspirations, in composition and production, these days i’m on a different one, so it's Sir Victor Uwaifo, Blink-182, Lil Wayne & the two that i’ve probably said a thousand times, Drake & Travis Scott.

CM:Most memorable&embarassing moment performing on stage?

Lectrik: I don’t think I’ve had an embarrassing moment while performing and I pray I never do. I can't really say one event was very memorable cause I have’t sold out a stadium yet. That's a memorable dream. Soon.

CM:What has music done for Lectrik?

Lectrik: Well, music got me this interview i guess. Music’s what got my name out there for you to know who i am. it has also actually made me a different person. I think I approach & think things differently. When it comes to achievements, i don’t like to talk about that. at least not yet. I’m still on my way. This isn’t the time for me celebrate at all.

CM:Tell us a glimpse about your love life?

Lectrik: i’m getting married soon.

CM:New projects&next 5 years plans?

Lectrik:I want to use this question to apologize to everyone to everyone about my next project. i’ve been posting it a lot but that's only because I'm trying to do the best music to all my listening family. I've called it other names but it's finally called “Nightlife” but I won't give a date yet. but it’s really soon. In the next 5 years I want to be where God Has planned for me to be & no where else.

CM:Tell us your take on youth empowerment?

Lectrik:Youth empowerment Is not a new thing & i can’t say anything youngens thejimnse days don't already know. Take the world into your own hands & kick ass. basically.

CM:How can your fans&readers connect to you on the media?

Lectrik: My twitter & Instagram is @llectrik, Soundcloud, Apple music, Spotify & the rest is just Lectrik.

CM:We had fun sir, thanks for honoring our call.

Lectrik:Thanks for having me, bless up.
