GET TO KNOW ABOUT GOSHA GUPPY.

Born in 2000 to Haitian parents, Zach Bernagene has led a winding life interacting with the cultural extrema of New York City. Growing up in an apartment building with “one drug-dealer on every floor,” Guppy wrestled with institutional forces pushing him to rap or ball. Bernagene, at first, chose books. Upon his admittance to an elite Upper West Side private high school, and subsequently, to Washington University of St. Louis, Guppy became known on his block not as a rapper, but as “the kid who got into college.” One foot in East Flatbush and the other in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Bernagene’s music would attempt to reconcile the chasm between these two vastly different lives. Gosha Guppy would bridge this divide.

Bernagene came of age alongside the democratic streaming service Soundcloud, a platform that would revolutionize the way hip-hop was produced and consumed. It obliterated the barrier to entry and allowed aspiring rappers to instantly have listeners. Subgenres arose, and a strain of more alternative, melodic and, at times, aggressive hip hop was born. “Soundcloud rappers are running the game right now, dictating trends, it’s exciting to be in this moment,” Guppy says. He embraces the culture he is now helping shape;
Bernagene’s name, Gosha Guppy, hints at the temporal duality of his music. The first half borrows from Gosha Rubchinskiy, the forward-thinking Russian fashion label, largely credited for bringing oversized clothing back into the mainstream. While the rapper’s surname is an homage to the dear departed, harkening back to Bernagene’s first pet fish he had at age 7, a gold guppy fittingly dubbed…Guppy. Gosha is the future, Guppy the past. The playfully alliterated pen name embodies the artist’s manifesto: music grounded in a formative NYC childhood and created with an eye on hip hop’s horizon.

In 2019, Gosha boasts a broader list of influences, and along with stalwarts Lil Uzi Vert, A$AP Rocky, XXXTentacion, and UnoTheActivist, he now reveres the work of Frank Ocean and Tame Impala. Amidst his artistic maturation, Guppy has begun to see that “the voice can and sometimes should be the most powerful instrument” on a track. Once ashamed of his high-pitched voice, he now questions auto-tune’s role in rap and with newfound confidence embraces more lyrical, melodic opportunities. The uppity, coarse vocals on recent single “A Beautiful Day To Get Robbed” point to this shift.
Bernagene says A Beautiful Day To Get Robbed was a concept that occurred to me when he awoke one morning.
"I awoke and the sun was shining the birds were chirping and it was a something that happens. However I though to myself it was a beautiful day to get robbed because who would rob someone on such a beautiful day"
The message he is trying to pass across is how someone would rob another person
and the things that people say in New York City when they are getting robbed
He was influenced by things I saw in the greater New York City area, he says.

REVIEW ON “TOY GUN” EP BY MIDE MICHAEL'S X BEEZY

My review on the debut EP of my friend, brother and creative partner Mide Michael.

The EP titled “Toygun”  was an amazing listening experience and it might just be the most beautiful projects to come out of Nigeria in recent times.

Growing up together at the Prestigious St Finbarrs College Akoka
I have watched Mide grow from a Wizkid Fanatic and Superfan to an Amazing musician with insane vocals.

Mide is an RnB Artiste by default, but he is very good with blending different sounds together without losing touch of his artistry and originality. All tracks in this EP was produced by Beezy.

Track 1 : Pieces.
In this song Mide goes back to his RnB roots, even tho this is not the contemporary RnB 90’s kids we are used to, this is the new form of RnB heavily influenced by Hip Hop. Following the footsteps of his foreign counterparts such as Bryson Tiller and Partynextdoor. He sings about his feelings after a failed call to his mistress, his wild lifestyle and his great desire to be loved which has left him in “pieces”.
Listen to Pieces by Mide Michael & BeezyX.

Track 2: Murderer
In this track, Mide takes us to his Afro side. The instrumentals is a soft rendition of the new Afro Bashment subgenre. Produced by the Genius Beezy. Mide shows us a little bit of his wild side renders it in the most Nigerian way possible. It’s a very beautiful listen.
Listen to Murderer by Mide Michael & BeezyX

Track 3 Cruise:
This song makes me wonder if the funk style of the late 80’s and 90’s is slowly making its way back to the millennial ear drums. Another beautiful song with Vocals from budding rapper “Sukay” and Amazing singer “Tsuni” whose sound is heavily influenced by Beyoncé.
Listen to Cruise (feat. Sukay & Tsuni) by Mide Michael & BeezyX

Track 4: “Toygun”
This is my favorite song on the four track EP. you can hear Mide in the background talking to Beezy about the awesomeness of their joint project then a smooth blend of 808's and Kicks followed which ended the EP in a perfect way.
Listen to Toygun by Mide Michael & BeezyX

The project is 9/10 and I would recommend for anyone who loves good music and it's out on all platforms worldwide.

Jamaican Young Talented Artist Is Set To Conquer The World.

Art is everything the world can have and more and in our world today, Art has spread like a wild fire and it's rapidly growing among our creatives. We moved our radar off Nigeria and we discovered a young Jamaican female artist who is indeed blessed with the chakra's of art. Monique Kidd is an art illustrator who's currently attending an art institution in Jamaica. We spoke at length about her inspirations and challenges.

Tell us about yourself?

Monique Kidd: I'm an individual that basically lives her life for art and art only. I don't have much hobbies unless observing the people around me for inspiration  counts. I attend an art institution that is on the verge of driving me crazy but I live for the experience and somewhere along the line I still find time to work as a part time illustrator.

At what point did you discover your gift of Art?

Monique Kidd: I really remember  discovering my gift. It just happened, one day I just decided that drawing would be my thing and it was.

How do you juggle doing Art and school work?

Monique Kidd: I work with the motto
"Don't stress over things u can't change". It's helped me through the most difficult times. At the end of the day I have my panic attacks like everyone else but somehow I make it work.

Whats your source of inspiration?

Monique Kidd: My Jamaican bg plays a heavy role in everything I create. The issues, the sexual and the gimmicks .

As a person, what does Art mean to you?

Monique Kidd: Art means, having an escape that not many persons can really relate to, it provides an outlet in which persons can just be their genuine self without judgement.

What impact do you want your art to make in the society?

Monique Kidd: Selfishly my art is for me, I just chose to share it and it just happens to make people laugh, smile or just feel something.

Whats your most embarrassing moment since you started Art?

Monique Kidd: The most embarrassing moment has to be the first time I had to speak in front of a crowd about my pieces. It wasn't a case of not being able to articulate words about my creations, I just suffered from a fear of public speaking.

Whats your view on youth empowerment?

Monique Kidd: I think the youth have the ability to shape the future into whatever we want, unfortunately majority of us are full of sh*t and refuse to see the bigger picture, instead we embrace a "fight fi me alone " mentality.

How can our readers connect with you on your socials?

Monique Kidd: it's kidding_art on Twitter and Instagram.

I AIM TO MAKE MUSIC THAT SPEAKS TO PEOPLE - LUNA.

The month of March is a very significant one for women all around the world and we at Colossus Media have decided to celebrate young females to encourage and support their brands and businesses.
The time is now! Young women from all races and walk of life are taking the reins of leadership all around the world. It's a woman's world now and Luna's soulful vocals and lyrical prowess reiterate her readiness to take on the music industry.

Colossus Media: Tell us a little bit about Luna?

Luna: Well Luna is my stage name and I picked the name because I’m interested in astrology and my spirit girl is literally Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. I’m a Gemini and aside from singing I’m also an artist. So when it comes to cover art I do that myself. I also play the piano and love anime. However, I sleep a lot because of all the work I do.

When did you start making music professionally?

I professionally started making music in 2016. That’s when I started writing my songs for the purpose of releasing them to the public. However I didn’t drop anything until January 18th this year, which is Glitters, my first song on SoundCloud.

You’re yet to release a body of work, can we expect one soon?

I’m currently working on a summer EP called Magenta, but you’d expect some singles and collaborations before then.

Who influenced what you listened to growing up as a kid?

Growing up, I was exposed to so many different types of music, and I’d have to say that my Dad was the musically inclined one at home. I listened to a lot of classical music when I was little because when I started learning how to play the piano (at the age of 3) I learned with a classical background. I also listened to some Jazz, RnB and Soul music artists like James Brown, Frank Sinatra And honestly so many others. I liked the way the music made me feel, even though at the time I didn’t really get the lyrics. But RnB And Soul have influenced my current sound.

As a female, what role do you think you playing in the Nigerian Music Industry?

In the Nigerian music industry I aim to create music that speaks to people. Music they can relate to and actually feel within themselves. Not only for the girls but for the boys as well. All my songs are based on experiences I’ve had. I just want people to have something they can hold on to, to remind them that they’re not alone. You know?

How's has the industry treated you as a female artiste?

I wouldn’t necessarily say I’ve been fully immersed in the Nigerian music industry, because I’m just starting out. Getting the word about your music around isn’t as easy as I’d thought. However, I think the way I have been treated in the industry is quite good so far. People are supportive and some give constructive criticism on what I need to work on and stuff.

So there was a fan on Twitter who asked you to quit making music, how do handle the criticism on the media?

I’m a very thick skinned person and I know my worth. I don’t think there’s anything that anybody can tell me, that could possibly make me... sad. Nobody can tell me to quit something except me. So I don’t think I’d be “quitting” music anytime soon.

The year just started and you just dropped “glitters” and it's doing numbers on the chart ,who are you tipping for in 2019?

Yeah Glitters is currently on 2k+ plays after just two months and I’m super happy about that. Definitely Na-Ku. Most of the other young artistes debuted last year and they’re doing really good so I hope things work out for them in the long run, but Na-Ku is someone I see going very far because he’s super talented and I love his work ethic.

2k+ plays!! That's crazy for a debut song in less than 2 months, congrats on that. What is your one true desire?

Thanks. My one true desire is to live in true happiness honestly because I think your happiness matters more than anything else.

Nicely said, you got last words for every female artiste out there and how can our readers connect with you on your socials?

I just want to say that to all the young female artistes. Be yourself. Do what feels like you, or you’d hate it and get tired. My twitter is @lunaalovesyou and my Instagram is @lunaa.loves. I’m available for bookings so for business related stuff, hit me: alina.abdullahi@gmail.com

ÍRÈ

Tmol '18.

Good evening readers and a Happy Poetry day.  “ÍRÉ” a poem written by Daniel Nnaemeka.

ÍRÉ....

Do not curse these scars,
he might have held the knife,
but it was you who showed him where to cut
thinking that to love was to lose yourself to his fire.

Don't judge the game,
when you haven't held a console,
nothing lasts forever,
same as the word “forever”
illusions take the better part of dreams,
obsession takes depression to the aisle.

Everyone dies in their nightmares,
don't be scared of rejection,
it's a numb action which requires tears,
sadness and sorrow which makes nothing,
happiness is free but not promised.

The soul attracts that which it secretly habours,
that which is love, attention,
and also that which it fears,
it reaches the height of its cherished aspirations.

Be positive and enjoy your growth,
the road might be rocky, but the end like honey,
the sweetness of yaweh's grace,
is forever sufficient in my soul.

HOW MY CAMERA CHANGED MY LIFE - MASK THA DIRECTOR.

Good morning Readers, it's another  Sunday and we had a sit-down with a young talent who turned his hobby for taking pictures and making short videos into being his profession.
Boluwatife Jayeoba is our guest for today, popularly known as “Mask Tha Director” has turned his love for lights and images into creating a niché for his career. His Company has worked with Afrima awards, Mainland Block Party etc.We met at a function and had a little conversation about his career and business.

1)Tell us who Boluwatife Jayeoba is?

Boluwatife Jayeoba  is a Cinematographer/Entrepreneur he owns his own media company “Mask Media”.

2)when did you start photography /videography professionally?

I started photography professionally in 2016, a year after I left secondary school, after running my media company for 3 months I discovered that there were a lot of media companies coming up and with the same basic content (photography),so I decided to infuse videography into mine so as to stand out,I started videography and I didn’t take it serious but I noticed I started finding it more comfortable documenting and shooting videos that’s was how the whole maskthadirector thing came up.

3)how do you blend school work with business?

I try my best to serve both masters which isn’t easy but we try.

4)how did the name “MASK MEDIA” come about?

The name “Mask Media” came from my nickname Mask, while growing up I was a shy boy and I didn’t always want people to see my face,so I was with some of my guys one time and they address the matter about me being shy and they were like “oboy last last you go dey wear mask”and we all laughed when I got home that night i was trying to come up with a name for my company and myself so I tried Mask and with time it synced and people accepted  the name, so as for maskthadirector when I started directing I just added thadirector to Mask that’s how we have Maskthadirector .

5)Ever had a bad shoot or an Unforgettable memory?

Yeah, there’s one I can’t forget I had a video to shoot one time and we had to use a ghetto location, when we got there things were cool until when we started the shoot some boys just tripped out from nowhere and they where like ‘una no go shoot anything here where the director”,that moment was scary but we settled everything and moved on but those guys are family now.

6)The industry has alot to offer, some people have competitions, who is yours?

Competitions isn't my thing, drive on your lane, there's space for everyone to fly and spread your wings. My biggest competition is the man I see in the mirror everyday and that's myself.

7)what is your biggest motivation?

My biggest motivation is my mom,I do everything for her.
8)Will you say photography is more of abusiness or a hobby for you?

Cinematography is a hobby which I expect to make profit from, basically I don't have to stress, I find fun doing what I love and that's the goal.

9)Advice to Upcoming Photographers

You must believe in yourself and make sure you keep learning because when you stop learning you stop living.

10)how can our readers connect with you on your socials?

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION.

After the Socialist Party Of America organized a Women's Day on February 28, 1909, in New York, the 1910 International Socialist Woman's Conference suggested a Women's Day be held annually. After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.
Today, International Women's Day is a public holiday in some countries and largely ignored elsewhere. In some places, it is a day of protest; in others, it is a day that celebrates womanhood. It Signifies Civil awareness day,Women and girls day, Anti-sexism day and Anti-Discrimination day for Women all over the World.

BURNA BOY DANGOTE LYRICS VIDEO.

African's Giant Damini “Burna Boy” Ogulu just released his new single “Dangote” after dropping his smash hit “Killin Dem” featuring Zlatan ibile. This new single has left many asking his reasons for naming his single after African's Richest Man Aliko Dangote.

“Dangote still dey find money” is a catchy line in the song. I think this is related with the previous achievement of Aliko Dangote who made $5bn in 24 hours which is mind bursting.

Watch the lyrics video for Dangote. Enjoy

DAMNATION

A poem composed and written by a patriotic Nigerian Lydia George titled “DAMNATION”. This shows her concern over the Previous Elections held in Nigeria on the 23rd February 2019. The chaos, blood sheds and many unforseen experiences that occurred during the cause of the Presidential elections.

Once again,
The dark clouds hover upon my nation,
It weeps for our damnation
Washing away blood spilled by our brother and sisters,
To make sure there is a win for a certain mister.

I see no hope today,
Today I see no wins,
As a nation, we have lost,
We sold our wins to our damnation.
And tomorrow once again we shall pray.

God save us all,
Those are the lyrics to new song,
The drums will be the gun shots,
And the piano will be the wails,
We shall sing the songs of sorrow once again.

On a day of new beginnings,
We have served ourselves with hot bowls of curses and shame,
Served with a glass of blood,
Later we shall wash our hands in pain,
And by the time dinner is over , we shall suffer in our own
DAMNATION.

                           Lydia George.

REVIEW ON KAYLU'S DOUBLE HOMICIDE COVER.

A look into kaylu's double homicide cover, sometime this year Mavin Records rapper Ladi Poe started a challenge for other rappers to drop covers of his track titled Double Homicide from his 2018 album which he featured Ghost of SDC on. Notable rappers released video covers of the song till the challenge ended. Well that was what we thought up until the fast rising rapper Kaylu came out of the blues and surprised us with his own cover he dropped as an audio on SoundCloud. Kaylu’s cover is one of the most notable because of his witty wordplays, impeccable flow and undiluted delivery. He also calls out all rappers in the cover, making it known to all that he is a force to be reckoned with in the hip hop game and isn’t coming to play this year. The cover is rumored to be a diss track to rappers and a few influential personalities.
Kaylu has proven times without number that he is one of the top young acts to watch in the game. We do hope to see more from the young talented rapper.
We love good music at Colossus Media and we would keep supporting the young acts in the industry, remember We rise by lifting Others.

Ratings:8/10
