REVIEW ON “TOY GUN” EP BY MIDE MICHAEL'S X BEEZY

My review on the debut EP of my friend, brother and creative partner Mide Michael.

The EP titled “Toygun”  was an amazing listening experience and it might just be the most beautiful projects to come out of Nigeria in recent times.

Growing up together at the Prestigious St Finbarrs College Akoka
I have watched Mide grow from a Wizkid Fanatic and Superfan to an Amazing musician with insane vocals.

Mide is an RnB Artiste by default, but he is very good with blending different sounds together without losing touch of his artistry and originality. All tracks in this EP was produced by Beezy.


Track 1 : Pieces.
In this song Mide goes back to his RnB roots, even tho this is not the contemporary RnB 90’s kids we are used to, this is the new form of RnB heavily influenced by Hip Hop. Following the footsteps of his foreign counterparts such as Bryson Tiller and Partynextdoor. He sings about his feelings after a failed call to his mistress, his wild lifestyle and his great desire to be loved which has left him in “pieces”.

Track 2: Murderer
In this track, Mide takes us to his Afro side. The instrumentals is a soft rendition of the new Afro Bashment subgenre. Produced by the Genius Beezy. Mide shows us a little bit of his wild side renders it in the most Nigerian way possible. It’s a very beautiful listen.

Track 3 Cruise:
This song makes me wonder if the funk style of the late 80’s and 90’s is slowly making its way back to the millennial ear drums. Another beautiful song with Vocals from budding rapper “Sukay” and Amazing singer “Tsuni” whose sound is heavily influenced by Beyoncé.

Track 4: “Toygun”
This is my favorite song on the four track EP. you can hear Mide in the background talking to Beezy about the awesomeness of their joint project then a smooth blend of 808's and Kicks followed which ended the EP in a perfect way.

The project is 9/10 and I would recommend for anyone who loves good music and it's out on all platforms worldwide.
