Yarden releases his highly anticipated debut album, ANGEL, a 13-track body of work that brings
the different dimensions of his artistry into focus. Arriving two weeks after the release of its
preceding single, So Damn Fine, the album marks a defining chapter for an artist whose
distinctive vocals, melodic instincts and unconventional approach to songwriting have steadily
established him as an exciting voice within Nigeria's evolving Afropop and Alternative R&B
landscape. Blending Afropop, Afrosoul and Alternative R&B with nostalgic influences and
contemporary production, ANGEL offers an expansive introduction to Yarden's musical identity,
one that resists easy categorisation and invites listeners to arrive at their own interpretations.
For Yarden, ANGEL is less about committing to a singular theme than embracing the freedom to
explore. While romance, intimacy and desire appear throughout the project, they exist alongside moments of playfulness, vulnerability, confidence and uninhibited expression. Rather than
prescribing what each record should mean or how it should make listeners feel, Yarden allows
the music to speak for itself, leaving audiences to discover the different sides of him that
resonate with them. It is this openness that defines ANGEL; an album that can be experienced
differently depending on who is listening, when they are listening and what they bring to the
music.
An old soul created through a Gen-Z lens, Yarden draws from a musical palette that extends
beyond the conventions of contemporary Afrobeats. Echoes of classic Nigerian R&B and
Afropop, reminiscent of the melodic warmth associated with artists such as Paul Play Dairo and
Sunny Nneji, meet the expressive sensibilities of modern Alternative R&B and global pop.
Across the album, rich string arrangements, brass instrumentation, layered harmonies and
unexpected rhythmic transitions reflect an artist increasingly interested in exploring what his
sound can become. Yet, even as the production expands, Yarden retains one of his most
recognisable creative instincts; concise, melody-driven songwriting that communicates its ideas
without overstaying its welcome.
The album opens with Morning Angel (Intro), where delicate violin strings and Yarden's
understated delivery establish an atmosphere that gradually unfolds into a more rhythmic
expression. From there, Mi Amor introduces one of the project's most distinctive sonic
experiments, bringing Mariachi-inspired brass and Latin musical influences into conversation
with Afrobeats. The title track, Angel, leans into the nostalgic warmth of Nigerian R&B, while
One Chance explores a more conversational, call-and-response approach to melody. On 2
Soft, Yarden takes an unexpected turn, moving from an almost devotional opening into a playful,
rhythmically expressive record that demonstrates his ability to subvert expectations.
