A MOVING BODY OF WORK ROOTED IN RESILIENCE, FAITH, AND PURPOSE
Nigerian Afrosoul artist Kendickson unveils Life Series, his most
personal and accomplished body of work to date. More than an album, the eight-track project
is a deeply reflective exploration of struggle, healing, resilience, faith, and hope, transforming
lived experience into a universally relatable soundtrack for anyone navigating life’s defining
seasons.
Following the emotional honesty of his previous project, Love Series, Kendickson expands
his storytelling with a project that chronicles the realities of becoming. Built on Afro-fusion,
Afrosoul, R&B, alternative influences, cinematic production, and introspective songwriting,
Life Series captures the emotional weight of surviving hardship while discovering purpose
beyond it.
The album is drawn directly from Kendickson’s own life. At just twelve years old, his father
suffered a stroke, thrusting the family into years of financial and emotional uncertainty. By
seventeen, his mother had left home, leaving him, as the eldest child, to shoulder
responsibilities far beyond his age. Four years later, the loss of his father became another
defining chapter, deepening both his grief and his dependence on faith. Rather than allowing those experiences to shape his limitations, Kendickson transformed them into the foundation
of his artistry.
Across Life Series, every record represents a chapter of that journey. Opening track “Life”
reflects on growing up in Lagos while chasing a future beyond circumstance. “Kwechiri (No
Gree)” revisits painful family memories, confronting stigma while celebrating resilience and
the triumph of faith over adversity. “God’s Plan” serves as a motivational anthem for
dreamers navigating rejection and delayed success, while “Nobody (Akonuche)” explores
betrayal, discernment, and the difficult lessons learned from both life and the music industry.
As the project unfolds, its emotional tone gradually shifts from survival to restoration.
“Remind Me” embraces forgiveness and healing, while “Exotic” celebrates renewed
confidence through vibrant Afro-fusion rhythms infused with Igbo musical influences.
“Shine” stands as one of the album’s defining moments, a heartfelt prayer from an artist
longing to be seen after years of sacrifice. Closing record “Understand” offers one final
reflection on the personal cost of ambition, acknowledging the delicate balance between
pursuing purpose and preserving relationships.
Sonically, Life Series effortlessly blends Afro-fusion, soul, hip-hop, R&B, alternative music,
cinematic instrumentation, and African rhythmic textures into a cohesive listening
experience. Kendickson’s distinctive vocal tone carries emotionally rich melodies while his
songwriting moves seamlessly between vulnerability, spirituality, philosophy, motivation, and
poetic reflection. Every song feels deeply personal without losing its universal appeal,
creating an album that comforts, challenges, and inspires in equal measure.
Rather than centering itself on suffering, Life Series ultimately celebrates endurance. It
speaks to anyone carrying grief, rebuilding after disappointment, pursuing impossible
dreams, searching for healing, or simply trying to keep moving forward despite life’s
uncertainties. The project reminds listeners that difficult seasons are not permanent, and
that today’s struggles can become tomorrow’s testimony.
The title Life Series reflects Kendickson’s belief that life unfolds in chapters, with every
season shaping the person we eventually become. Where Love Series explored matters of
the heart, Life Series documents the resilience required to survive, evolve, and ultimately
thrive.
